How to Use the Income Tax Calculator

Last Updated: October 12, 2025

1. Accessing the Income Tax Calculator

Visit the Nova Tools homepage and find the "Income Tax Calculator" tool card in the Tools section. The card displays a money-check icon and the description "Calculate your income tax for FY 2025-26 based on Indian tax slabs." Click the card to open the calculator modal.

2. Opening the Calculator Modal

Clicking the tool card opens a modal titled "Advance Income Tax Calculator (FY 2025-26)". This modal contains input fields for Annual Income, Tax Regime, Deductions, and Age Category. You can close the modal by clicking the "×" button in the top-right corner or clicking outside the modal.

3. Entering Annual Income

In the "Annual Income (₹)" field, enter your total annual income in rupees (e.g., 1000000 for ₹10,00,000). Ensure the value is a positive number, as negative or zero values will trigger an alert ("Please enter a valid income amount.").

4. Selecting Tax Regime

Choose a tax regime from the "Tax Regime" dropdown: "New Tax Regime" (default) or "Old Tax Regime". Selecting the new regime disables the Deductions field, as deductions are not applicable. Selecting the old regime enables the Deductions field for entering eligible deductions.

5. Entering Deductions (Old Regime Only)

If you selected the "Old Tax Regime", enter your total deductions (e.g., under sections 80C, 80D) in the "Deductions (₹)" field (e.g., 150000 for ₹1,50,000). This field is disabled and cleared when the new regime is selected, as no deductions apply.

6. Selecting Age Category

From the "Age Category" dropdown, select your age group: "Below 60 years" (default), "60 to 80 years", or "Above 80 years". This affects the tax slabs used in the old regime, as senior citizens have higher exemption limits.

7. Calculating Tax

Click the "Calculate Tax" button to compute your tax liability for FY 2025-26. If the income is valid, the tool calculates the taxable income (income minus deductions for old regime), applies the relevant tax slabs, adds a 4% cess, and computes the effective tax rate.

8. Viewing Tax Results

After calculation, a result section appears, showing:

All amounts are formatted with commas for readability. You can modify inputs and recalculate as needed.
